I was thinking about something we should do come january.
I love the monthly contest we've got goin on here but i'm always thinking down the road.
Open topic, just the best of the best. Everyone gets to enter two of the best photos that they took in 2004 and then we vote.
Perhaps we could come up with some sort of price for the firstsecond and third.

Love the idea!
Though I don't and won't have decent photos for that.

Ok, but I think it should be narrowed to a topic, it seems to me that it is too wide open...I could send in airshow pics, some one else could do flowers, another a cool lanscape, another a pic of one of their kids and well you see where I am going. Each one could be great, but each in their own way.
I therefore, would like to request that we narrow it down to a seasonal topic, like wintertime, autumn, etc; landscapes; buildings; candids; or something else. Just an idea...

Hi Canuck,
But that would defeat the purpose, no?
The whole idea is to present the best of the year 2004 (when it's concluded).

I like the idea too and don't think there should be a limit to the subject. Yes, they'll all be varied, but that's the point, right? Or make up different categories and let us vote best of 2004 within the various catgories. That might end up with a hell lot of pics though...

Not really, we could vote in category a) landscape, b) motion, c) macro, d) you get the point...for those topics having multiple entries. It just seems bass ackwards to me. Idunno.

Speaking as a sometime-wildlife photographer, I can say that there only need to be five categories:
(1) ducks
(2) non-ducks
(3) critters
(4) roadkill
(5) all other

I'd like to suggest two sub-categories under 'ducks':
ducks, front
ducks, rear

Great idea! General categories would be good, but either way I think it would be loads of fun!

But we need judges!!!
We have to have 5 designated judges!!! I am not a big fan of the forum voting for the winner.
As far as category goes........there should be two.
B&W and Color!!!

I think that it's a dam fine idea, but as to the category I think it should be
open to any subject.
Why, it gives each photographer the chance to pick the best of the best, of all the photos that he/she has taken in 04. This it itself is a learning curve for anyone that wishes to take part, because I am sure that we have all been out shooting on day and taken many good photos. But it is harder to choose 1 single photo that is the best for the year.
However I believe that there should be rules to judging the photo, not just what looks good composing, technical ability etc. Not to just judge the image on what looks good.
Which means that if it was to be run this way then judges will need to pointed. :)
Just my idea

nzl-g3user, you were doing fine until
not just what looks good composing, technical ability etc. :D
I don't know about others, but for me a good photo is a good photo, regardless of the rules obied or concepts followed. heck, I even invented rules of my own, ha ha

Well you know the old saying, rules are meant to be broken. Hell I will even break my own in this case
