How did this photographer take this picture without having himself and the camera as part of the reflexion?

Telephoto, or photoshop.

My guess is that he used a telephoto lens.

To me the surface looks more like glass than metal, so he is shooting through a glass ball and the image that appears on the ball is actually on the other side of it :)

It was shot with a Sony Cybershot, so I don't think a telephoto was used. I thought that it might have been done with a timer, or the camera is really up above and it's cropped out of the picture.

Or it could have been photoshoped out.

Neat picture.

An analysis of the image shows that this is most probably a composite image, a background image and the "crystal ball" image. The background image is of a higher resolution than the crystal ball.

Since this is most probably a composite, I think it's also safe to assume that the ball is not a metal ball but a glass ball and the image you see is on the other side of the ball, hence the reason the camera and the photographer are not in the picture. Since images viewed through the ball would be upside and inverted down, the image would also have had to be re-inverted to show a normally upright image.

It's a composite. Zoom in on the upper left corner near the edge of the sphere. You'll see where he goofed. And the ball shot was prob done with a mirror.

Okay... just to be sure, I e-mail the person, asking how the photo was done. If she answers, I'll post it up here.

Xrunner123 is right. Basics... The details from the base of the globe are also missing!
