I bought the ES-62 Lens Hood w/ Adapter for the 50F1.8II, and I must say, it really gives this lens a little needed boost in the aesthetic dept.
True, it cost about 1/5 of the lens, but I am a big believer in lens hoods (and sasquatch) and use them always instead of uv filters.
The lens hood is plastic, but the adapter is metal. Very nice quality, and I now leave the adapter on the lens at all times. The lens hood fits nicely on the lens/adapter reversed too, for easy storage.
I highly recommend it. :D

IMHO, there's on need to reverse the hood for its small size (and waste of time).

Congrats for your recent purchase.

i also have this hood and it does make the lens look more impressive. after all, isn't that what it's all about? :)

Absolutely!

Actually, I like to protect my lenses with hoods, and also they are the best way to prevent flaring. The cosmetic enhancement is obviously just a bonus.
Msvadi, yes, the picture was taken with the new 135L which makes the lens look much prettier than it is in real life.

Can u post a comparison pic taken with a light source at 45 degree angle to the lens?

Do you mean to see if the lens helps prevent flare?

You know, I was just looking at my picture above.
I noticed that the plastic lens hood isn't lined with a low diffusion material like most lens hoods. You can see the light reflecting off the inside of the hood. I wonder if this could actually CAUSE flare or reflection on the lens?

I looked at the lens hood again. It is a matte, anti-reflective type paint.
It's just not the black felt found in most hoods.

drisley, now you have to post a picture of that thing mounted on the 300D :D. Please!

Hmmm, I wish I could. I dont have another camera.
I might have to setup some smoke and mirrors.

Is that the kit lens? Pretty neat. I'm looking for a lens hood for the kit, as I've had some flare problems with it. I was going to settle for a nice cheap rubber hood, but that seems better. The only problem I have with the rubber hoods is that they are easily distorted, and sometimes will vignette because they hood isnt perfectly circular.

Gee, never had that problem and I have rubber on all mine. Including the 50mm MkI.

Oh, and J___, you can get stuff cheap so you should lose the neck strap and get a neoprene one with quick release buckles. I have a Tamrac and when the camera is on the tri-pod it is so much nicer not having the strap dangling.

Yeah, with the crop factor, and a proper rubber lens hood, there is probably no chance of vignetting.
I just remember having a rubber lens hood on my G3, and if the hood was even slightly oval, it would show in the pics.
