Had lens for a week but first chance to use it. Unfortunately was in hospital when it came and was not able to even open the box until now. Had hard time holding camera with flash but did it.

I don't know what the flower is. It is on a plant my company sent to me when I was in the hospital. It is white and that makes it hard for me to expose properly. No pp, only resize for web. f8,1/80s and iso 400.

Thank you for your comment macro junkie!!

congrats on the new sigma, its a really good macro and takes awesome pics. when shooting white flowers try putting the flash exposure comp down, it will help a lot. same with yellow flowers they seem to be a pain to get the fine details.

You chose a difficult subject from the exposure POV but congrats on the lens -.

Since I used flash, I thought the shutter speed made no difference as long as it was in parameters., I also had 4 layers of paper towels over the flash head. The bee had so much noise because it was just about 5% of the total image. It was a shoot and hope for focus.

Jay, I have never used compensation and I guess that now is the time.
LordV, I didn't have much choice of subject as that was the only flower in the house at the time. I was anxious to try out the new lense. After I heal up, I will post some more with this lens and hope they will be an improvement.

I appreciate all comments!! :):D:D

This is about all I have around the house to shoot. Cherry tomatoes in a bowl.
I had my left shoulder replaced again on 10/8/07 after 18 years. The original was wearing out and I had limited movement and pain. You can see that I was not able to hold the camera long enough to center the second one but I am posting it anyway.

Hey Jack glad to see you back, congrates on the Sig105... sweet lens.
I like the last shot, well done considering your condition. I'm glad to see nothing's slowing you down but don't overwork the shoulder buddy. God bless.

Nice work Jack, keep at it but remember to rest that shoulder.:D

If you use a shutter speed around 1/200 you have the best chance of avoiding any blur from camera shake or from the motion of the subject (ie insect on a swaying branch). I do go slower sometimes but mostly when I have some form of additional support, tripod or monopod and a nice stationary subject. The downside of this is a less naturally lit looking shot. I'll add another tip, don't be afraid to up the ISO, it will bring a little colour to the backgrounds.

I generally shoot at around 1/200 F11 ISO400 and almost always a bit of -ve FEC. The FEC amount can vary depending on the shooting conditions and your form of diffuser on the flash head(s). I've found I need more FEC with the Sto-Fen Omi Bounce than I do with the LumiQuest SoftBox.

These were shot mainly one handed. #1 1/1000s, f8-#2 1/500s f5.6-#3 1/100s f11 all at iso 400. I have never used FEC but I will try it. It has been suggested before.
Thanks for the C&C
