By the way, I left the White Balance set to indoor incandescent light when I snapped the picture and adjusted the balance in Photoshop.

It's an OK shot, but that lower petal pointing at 6 o'clock is really blown out. The shadow detail looks good, though I'm not sure the shadows in the background were the point here.

The image is too big for easy "one shot" viewing. But that aside, the highlights are overexposed and distracting. The gradient from dark at top to bright at bottom is also non-aesthetic, and is not a good compositional choice. If the light gradient were on an angle, it might work better. But a light-dark-light composition would have worked better.

Thanks for the input guys. This is the first time I shot a close up that was in focus, so I was excited about that. As for the washed out white petal. That is probably my poor photoshop skills. Because the white balance was set to incandescent, the original had an ugly purpleish tinge.

Also, I was going to use F2 aperture, but I had an overexpose warning (the 1/500 was in red). I was hoping to use F2 to get a nice blurred background. I ended using F5. Can I compensate for this by changing the ISO setting or EV setting?
