I was flicking through a 1995 copy of National Geographic that's lying about at work and saw this old advert. Thought someone might be interested to see it.

"A 1995 copy of National Geographic that's lying about at work"... do you work at a dental office? :)

I have that crappy old 75-300IS lens. I used to like it back in the day but digital really seems to bring out it's optical weaknesses. That was also well before I knew what L's were.

Interesting glimpse in reverse.

Just curious but: How many URLs can you find in that issue?

I was digging through some back issues of Fine Scale Modeler a while back and something didn't "feel" right. Then it hit me, the issue was old enough (iirc, 1989 or '90) and there were no internet links anywhere in that entire issue.

I couldn't find any, but there's very few adverts in there anyway.

Actually that's far enough back that commercial usage of the Internet was disallowed. You had to be either in the military or affiliated with a university (student, faculty, etc.) to get access.

The biggest white lens in the corner looks FAKE!It isn't a fake at all. It's the 1200mm f/5.6 (http://www.canon-europe.com/For_Home/Product_Finder/Cameras/EF_Lenses/Fixed_Focal_Length/EF_1200mm_f56L_USM/).

Yeah I did some searching after seeing it. Is that thing for sale or what?

Yeah I did some searching after seeing it. Is that thing for sale or what? Not exactly. It was discontinued in 2005, and they were only ever built to order anyway. According to Wikipedia, the "retail" price when it was launched in 1993 was US$89,579. I don't know how many were ever built - certainly not very many! - so it's probably quite unlikely that you'll see one on eBay any time soon....
