Then the skies cleared. Today was a decent day for taking a pic so I took this one as a vertical pano half an hour before sunset. On the way home from work basically :-)

You might find it interesting that when holding the camera level and pointing at the horizon, the verticals do not converge (except when using ultra wide angle lens),

How do you propose going about doing that when you're stitching together a pano?

First of all, I seldom read the introduction by the photographer. I prefer to critique the image without bias.
But to answer your question, it is quite impractical to do a vertical panoramic stitch and avoid the converging verticals.

Thanks for comments. I was thinking of trying to fix the verticals but if you take another look, you can see that the bottom of the shot has the same issue as the top.
I was standing on the rim of the fountain and looking down. I then starting taking the shots moving up and the convergance is more apparent with the buildings. It looks quite weird with some perspective control so I left it as it is.
What I might do is crop some of the bottom of the fountain so it occupies about a 3rd of the frame and see what a "fix" looks like.

Interesting comment Robert.
There was a thread on photo.net a few months ago about converging verticals, and I commented that it was unavoidable. Galbraith contradicted me flat out, saying I was wrong.:o
May I quote you?;);)

I have no objection to being quoted, but I am hardly an authority on the subject.
Other things that I find interesting about the issue are as follows:
- The so-called "fish eye" lenses inherently distort. In fact, it is my understanding that the "fish-eye" term is intended to characterize those lenses that inherently distort, while other wide angle lenses do not have inherent distortion.
- There is another time honored feature of some cameras (notably the view cameras) called "tilts and swings" which is usually accompanied by the ability to raise or lower the lens and to also shift the lens left or right. Those features can minimize or eliminate converging verticals even when the camera is not level.
