Only for wedding and event shooters.

What brand flash are you using? And if you're using a battery pack or other flash related accessories please note them in the thread.

I'm thinking it will be a close run between Canon and Quantum, but let the poll speak the truth.

Canon 580EX here with a 420EX as backup. Sto-fen OmniBounce for the 580EX sometimes.

Back in my MF film days I had a couple of those big Metz potato masher style strobes. But when I switched to digital I found that the 580ex is more than adequate for the job when coupled with a 5D. Plus it's a lot more compact and lighter :D.

420EX for the last wedding. For the next I'll use a 580EX for its faster recycling.

Ditto. I still love the Metz though. To me it's the easiest flash to handle and doesn't need a funky frame to get the flash away from the lens axis.

So true rhys, so true..... but alas since the Hasselblad sits in the closet now, the Metz 45CL-4 keeps it company.....

I remember buying my Metz 45 CT1 as if it were yesterday. I think it was 1990. I had one of the low voltage models. I still have that flash in mint condition together with the packaging and a spare battery holder. I always used NiCads. Imagine how it would work with NiMh! I was so happy when I paid a hundred pounds ($200) for it and two weeks later the price went up by about 15%.

Probably this thread would have gotten more response in the weddings forum. I was going to put it there, but then thinking it was equipment related I put it here.

I just picked up a 580ex and a 430EX. I realise now I should have had two 580EXs but... They will all work.

Regarding battery packs. Check out this link from POTN member Forkball (aka John). Demonstrates the recycle times using canon's battery pack. http://www.jmh-photography.com/flashpower.wmv (the thread this was taken from is here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=353629).

I've recently started shooting weddings and really enjoy the fast recycle times my CP-E4 gives me. I use it on either my 580ex or 580exII. Both with stofen ommibounce.
