Iím looking at purchasing the Canon EF 28-300 mm F3.5-F5.6 L IS USM lens to fit on my EOS 400D, mainly to take action shots of football (soccer) games. Has anybody got any experience using this combination and maybe some examples to post?

For motorsports I usually set up one or two big telephotos on tripods and then put the 28-300's predecessor (35-350 L) on the third body to catch whatever is closer. I like it very much, and call it my 'paparazzi' lens.

So I think the 28-300 could make a nice a nice lens for you - a lot of range on one body, and IS to boot.

Have Fun,

I have never used this lens though thought about it, but do some football, and prefer the 100-400L, though it does get hard work in low light, you need quite fast AF, and don't find 100mm much of a problem, 300mm may be to short sometimes on full size pitches.
