Used the G3 for a while then switched to the DR. What I've noticed is that the rebel seems to need more light. I mean I often get 1/8 and 1/10 shutter speeds, whereas I never had those speeds with the G3. Almost always shoot AV in both cameras.
What do you think might be the reason.

Hi aam,
maybe the fact that the G3 has a f/2.0 lens and your kit lens will be something like, f/3.5-4.5?
But ... as you said you use AV, maybe something else?
Bump the ISO to 400 or 800 ... the problem will most likely go away
Best regards,
Andy

Thanks Andy, I often go to iso 400+
But was wondering what could be the reason. Or maybe the DR is somewhat defective. Dunno.

You shooting at midnight without a flash maybe  ?
... don't forget to get the 1.8/50 or 1.4/50, if you don't have any of these yet...
Best regards,
Andy

The ISO rating of the PowerShot cameras is not really accurate; in fact, the sensitivity of the PowerShot cameras seems to be a bit higher than what the ISO rating indicates - ISO 50 on the PowerShot G3 for example is more like ISO 80 in reality. (I had a G3 but sold it last year when I bought my 10D).

I'm not a big fan of going in either extreme on the aperture. Try hard not to go above f8 nor blow 20 something.

Hi Jesper,
I'm aware of the iso 50= 80 in real situation. The thing is, I rarely had to go to iso 100 w/ the G3.

Did you sell the G3?

I noted a similar thing when I had a G5 to backup my 10D
The G5 would seem more sensitive to light... Just put it down to a P & S being less accurate than a DSLR. Certainly not a fault in my opinion.

Well, you asked why the Rebel seems to need more light, didn't you? With the same settings (ISO and aperture) the Rebel will need more light because ISO 100 on the G3 is more like ISO 160 or so in reality. That explains why your Rebel, in which the ISO is more accurate, seems to need more light.

Nope, still have it.

What lenses are you using on the rebel? Maybe you should do a couple of tests, so that the ISO and the lighting is the same.
