Caliper = Micrometer and possibly = o-ring tool bit (though i'm not exactly sure what an o-ring tool bit is). Calipers/Micrometers measure very small gaps and widths, for instance, the distance between a guitar string and the fretboard under it and such.

Yep, definitely flashtube, with transformer to get the high voltage required for the flash. The metal part around the tube is the reflector.

Thought so, the thing that threw me off was the huge rod through the tube, normally it's a thin filament.

There's no filament in camera flashes at all. Those "rods" are the electrodes at either ends of the glass envelope with gas (xenon) in between that "flashes".
As for the pic, looks like the navigation button thing on a mobile phone.

Funnily enough, the only reason I guessed the phone button was that I took a macro of mine to use in this game (but didn't end up using it).
No filament - flashes use gas discharge, not incandescence. Sometimes it can look like there is a filament due to the curvature of the glass which bends a reflection of the silver reflector into the centre of the glass tube (if that makes sense :)).
Someone else take it as I don't have anything to post right now.
