Is that a metal loop for putting something through, like a wrist strap etc??
lavanut
28th of February 2009 (Sat), 09:22
No loop there.
The main item is one of several just like it on the object. You can see one full one and part of another (though very blurry due to DOF) in the image.

I wouldn't really call it a "dock" for something, but it is a contact point (one of several, as mentioned before) on the object

You all given up on this or just too busy this weekend?
Here's one more hint. There are a total of 5 of those metal things on my object, and it is something many folks on POTN have.

I'd say from your 580 EX since they don't look like that on the 580 EX II
they look more like the ones from my 430 EX ;)

Good enough for me. It's actually a set of contacts on my sync cord, but since it looks a lot like the contacts on the 580 EX (you're right, the contacts on the EXII are different), it's close enough.

Close enough. Its really the burst disk on a Co2 tank. If it builds up too much pressure the disk cracks and breaks letting pressure out the hole.
Its so when you play paintball in the sun the tanks don't explode, rather the burst disk kicks in.
Your up Tom.
lavanut
25th of March 2009 (Wed), 20:21
"burst disk"... didn't that happen on Apollo 13? It didn't cause the main explosion, but it scared the willies out of them in the movie. Now I have a real life example to relate to. I learn so much on these forums! :D

depending of how the burst disc crack it can also be dangerous
someone I know was filling a tank and the disc BLEW, the tank detached itself from the filling tube and went flying around in the room,
he got lucky and got his arm broken buy the projectile, I say lucky because if he hadn't lift his arm to protect his face, I think he might not be still here
