I guess you mean yours will adjust focus 'as soon as you move' ?
That would mean it's just doing the normal AI focus thing
...but i'm not sure why it would refuse to take the pic - other than none of the focus points succeeding in catching anything (such as when trying to focus too close or in low light)
Do you mean it's not registering on all seven points at once OR it won't focus with any of them at all?
If none of the points can catch anything-see above
If you wondering about varying numbers of focus points lighting up then that is normal when the camera is set to all seven focus points. If the camera sees several points in focus on the one plane then it will light up all those points.Point it at a wall and they'll probably all light up
Personally i allmost only ever use the center focus point for simplicity and reliability-i don't like the camera trying to decide what i want to take a picture of.
Hopefully some of this might be helpfull-i'm guessing a little by your description. Can you give more info?

I don't know if this addresses your problem, but in normal Canon AI Servo, the AF points do not light up. The first shot of either single shot or continuous shooting is release priority and the shutter should fire whether or not the subject is in focus. The subseqent shots of continuous shooting require the subject to be in focus in order for the shutter to fire. This can be modified by Custom Functions in some Series 1 bodies.

hey ctrlz,
Unless there is a new hack that I don't know about, I think that is a bug in the firmware. When you manually select AF SE in no-sports modes, you can use the AI SERVO but it will not take the picture. To take a picture you have to lift up and then fully depress the shutter button. As far as not recognizing the AF points, I think that is just the way it works. Put it into sports mode and see how the 'real' AI SE mode works.

Yes, ctrz, that is normal.
SE is servo mode. It tracks moving objects using the AF point you set, but no red light will appear.
And yes, due to the fact that this is not fully working on the hack yet, you have to quickly lift your finger off the shutter, and then back down to take the shot. I do it all the time, and it's so quick and easy that I never miss a shot. Works MUCH better than the default AI AF mode where you have to pray that the Servo mode will kick in when you want ( it usually doesnt)
