I have had 'inquiries' for my recent advertised lenses with strange
requests. The buyers want to send me a UK issued cheque from 'friends',
for many thousands of pounds. I am then supposed to deduct my few hundred (When the cheque clears) and forward the balance to them
via money order.
How does this scam work?... I didn't fall for it incidently..

Of course it's a scam, or atleast immoral or illegal.

I suspected money laundering but it must go deeper than that? :(

You should inform the police and let them play it out.

The check you receive will be a fake. You deposit it in your bank, then send a real money order to them for the difference. Of course your money order goes through because you are honest and paid for it with money already in your account. Then a few days later the check you deposited bounces, and the perpetrators have your money and your lens. Nice.
