Those are some shots I took during the womens tennis final match in Zurich, Switzerland. This is the first time I shoot tennis. The shots are grainy, their wasn't as much light as I hoped. And I was sitting very far back for any real closups.

Lens 70-300 IS USM, ISO 800, 1/125

c&c as well as tips for future tennis shooting welcome

I like the first and last shots.. the first I like the angle and the lines.. dunno why.. arty ? :) You did well to capture it at 1/125

Last one I always like a venue shot. :)

I realize I may be stating the obvious but use a faster lens.

Ok - so Nikon sponsers the event, but how many of these guys are sporting Nikon gear ?

haha  I realized that too. All photographers at the event had Canon gear.

I find that hilarious, and for anyone that knows photography, a bit degrading for Nikon as a company :)

Maybe they painted their nikon lens white :D

Great photos considering what you had to work with.

Henin was playing Tatiana Golovin. The pathetic thing about tennis marketing is that the #15 player in the world (Golovin) is basically unknown.

To the OP, if you look at those photographers some have a 70-200/2.8 which is around $1100 for the non-IS. You could skip the zoom part and get a 200/2.8 which I think is around $600. Maybe even pick up a used one cheaper. It's tough to shoot indoors without at least a f/2.8. 1/125 won't really do it for most indoor tennis shots.

I find it interesting that all the guys with the white Nikon vest appear to be using "white" Canon equipment, while the poor soul of the right with the Canon Fujifilm vest overtop of the Nikon vest appears to be using "black" Nikon equipment.

so in order to shoot the event you have to have contradictory equipment to your vest?

I got the 70-300 because I mostly do outdoor motorsports shots. I had the opportunity to go to this tennis match so I did, and thats the only lens I had to work with. If I do decide to shoot indoors more your proposition seems like a good idea
