Alta Powder Day- Oct. 21

Hey! Here a few shots I took today up at Alta. There are plenty more I need to look through. Feel free to critique or offer an pointers you have for shooting in the snow. I'm a newb to it and hoping to get some great shots this season! Thanks for your input!

I like these photos! Whenever I take photos of snow with sky or anything, they're usually overexposed or not the right color.

How did you get the photos to be so perfect in exposure? Did you use a circular polarizer?

The last shot could use a bit brightening, though.

Hey Swift! Basically all I did was set my camera at around 9.0 in AV mode (as this gave an adequate shutter speed), set Auto White Balance, and metered the camera a little bit up because of the effect of the snow on the exposure. I did shoot some in manual once I was able to get the lighting correct, as long as it did stay consistent.

I did some research today and I might try using a grey card, metering off of that, next time I shoot.

The photos were shot in raw and post edited in order to get the colors what I feel is semi-accurate.

What I usually do, as long as lighting is fairly consistent, is set the camera up in manual once the settings are correct and make minor adjustments when needed.

Thanks for the input! I think I will mess with that second image some more to see what I might do with the levels.
