Nah not at this stage, if we had enough demand we might do that (its all shot in high def) but at this stage, not enough people have the players and lets face it.. as photographers we are all usually shelling out for camera stuff anyways.. haha

Exactly. A new lens comes before I invest in all that HD gizmozitory.
I spent so much time photographing & editing that I don't really have time for HD TV.

You have time for any TV? Wow, what a luxury ... although I do get to listen to TV that my daughter has running in the family room from my office where I am almost always editing images. I guess that counts for something. Oh, wait, no, I did see the Superbowl last year ... um, well, hmmm, I guess I was working at the time as it was a VIP event at the casino and I was shooting guests with an ex-Superbowl player, Daryle Lamonica (utterly charming guy and his wife is totally stunning) ... but I did get to glance at the screen between shots!

DVD UPDATE
Evening everyone, another day has passed and another edit day is complete :-)
Even though the DVD is running WELL behind schedule the quality is awesome and we have been packing in lots of other cool stuff too. Its definitely going to be a two DVD set now.
The main delay has been Wedding season!! Its been chaos here, multiple Weddings every weekend and core business stuff to do through the week so the DVD editing has been delayed... Happy to say now that the DVD edit days are scheduled in now and we are back on track.. well a bit behind.. but at least we are moving in he right direction...
Im planning on sending out the Beta copies in the next few weeks.
Its a very interesting project to do. There is soooooo much more to doing this DVD than I thought. I was lucky enough to see a couple of other DVD's of this type and I can assure you that my DVD is much more professionally produced and the information is much more clearly explained (and of course my models are hotter hahaha)

Hope everything is going well with you over there, don't let the stress get to you. Take a moment, sit down, and RELAX ;)

It may sound strange, but I'm happy about the delays! First, I have lots of other glamor/wedding DVDs that I haven't had a chance, still, to look at and it would be nice to have something to compare and have an idea of what to look for. I have three of Frank Doorhof's DVDs to study plus a bunch of PPA DVDs I want to review. The other big issue is that I have a 1DsMIII in my budget but it has slipped a few months and I'd like to have it in hand when I get this DVD set. So, take your time Jason ... July would be good for me!

In life that almost always seems to be the case ... someone always gets the short end of the stick. However, in this case, I think the "one (you)" is at least two, Jason and me, so I'm less inclined to be very sympathetic. And if I get to make the choice about who is most pleased, me or you, well ...:lol::lol: Of course, the wonderful thing about all this is that we will surely all be pleased in the end ... it's not like the 1DMIII crowd (of which I am one) where some are never pleased!!! :( [Oh, I'm in the pleased group there, too, as it happens.]

The Beta copies aren't so much what computer system it will run on (as its a DVD no region encoding) but more about the information in it and how technically correct it is. Im pretty sure its spot on but I want to get others to look at it to make sure before I release it :-)

Jason Cole
21st of February 2008 (Thu), 03:05
Hey All,
FINALLY the website update is done :-) yeahhhhhh!!!!
The DVD can now be ordered online finally.
Now BEFORE you order the DVD please note that its NOT FINISHED yet!!!
I have given the DVD Editor to the first week of March to have the first copy finished, then it goes to the Beta testers, its updated to be technically accurate (if there are any issues) and then it has to be mastered (around 2 weeks) then the DVD's will ship which will take another week or so. So being realistic, i dont see the DVD shipping until early to mid April.
Please MAKE sure when you order you state what version you want (NTSC or PAL). Shipping and packaging is a flat rate of $5 until the end of April. All funds are in US dollars.
But rest assured, its my number one priority to get this DVD out, but if your the impatient type, PLEASE wait to order the DVD until I put up a new post here saying the DVD is actually available to ship right now.
On a side note, its very exciting to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel after so much work has gone into this project :-) Very bloody exciting!!!

Hmm a launch party might not be a bad idea.... leave that with me... if your interested in attending a launch party let me know. If i have numbers we can do that for sure :-)

OK, I'm ready to move the date up to April! Last night at my Liza Minelli concert shoot I was chatting with the guy who promotes the Ring Card Girls and Go-Go Dancers to the casino and I asked about Nadia (second from left holding microphone in picture linked below) who had said a few months ago that when my little studio was ready she'd come work with me. He's the guy in the lower right corner of this image of mine that ESPN used: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3218535, and those are some of the regular girls. He says to me, "Oh, well, you know, I have several girls that want to do pictures but I didn't know anyone to use. The tall blond (and he pulls out his cell phone and shows me pictures) wants some shots to send to Play Boy ... she has outfits and ideas she wants to do, mostly implied nudity. She wants to do a shower series and some stuff on the beach ... I can arrange for a suite in the hotel. Do you have lights?" My tongue snapped against the top of my shoes! I gave him half a dozen more business cards and said, "Have someone contact me." So now I'm stuck ... I'm gonna hafta' actually learn how to use my $10,000 worth of studio lighting in a glamorous way so I'm really needing this DVD set!

Yes. I preach constantly about networking and passing out business cards and talking to everyone. I'm a 62 year old computer programmer with a bit of heart disease and no social skills whatsoever at all ... I can't even pick my nose properly in public ... if I can make these kinds of contacts/connections then no one else has any excuse. I get guys saying, "But it's because you have all that equipment!" Bull, I didn't have the equipment first ... I bought that with the money from photography. Ask almost anyone in here who is obviously successful if having a lot of expensive equipment is a requirement ... every one will say, "No." The good equipment makes the work easier and more flexible and maybe more reliable but it sure as $hit isn't what gets the work ... or the connections! Lord, I may have to ask Murphy to come over from Fresno to help me!

I agree. My own equipment probably is beyond my own skill/knowledge level, and I'm the first to admit that my love for photography is tainted by my own laziness! I NEED to shoot more. I read your "how i got into..." thread and it was very very interesting, thanks for making that thread.
My best friend works in a student hotel in London who regularly have live bands playing (I keep saying I'll go and shoot, but as usual something comes up... not always an excuse either:rolleyes:), one of the last bands I wanted to shoot was "Razorlight". Plenty of opportunities for me there, especially for networking.
And back on to topic, so glad that your dvd's are coming on nicely Jason... I'll make my order tomorrow.
Peace everyone!

Thats very interesting Dwight.
One bit of advice though, i get this a lot when im out at venues (or even when i see a hot chick at a Wedding - maybe a Brides maid...) they all say they want this or that, but when it comes time to actually do something, things are not as they seemed originally. Just be careful here mate, when the moneys on the table, then its time to start celebrating of course :-) and yes, the DVD will definitely help you with the lighting too.
What studio lights do you use?
P.S. I know about being lazy shooting, it happens ot me every now and then too... i just checked my calendar, the next 17 days straight have shoots on, so a lazy day here and there might not be a bad thing haha

Hey Joey,
The DVD will ship to everyone Early to mid April im trying to get it done for early April, and im pretty confident of hitting that deadline now. We have made a few changes to how we do things here now with the video team so i can see the project finally starting to move forward now at a much brisker pace (without the loss of quality of course(=). We are just doing the edit side differently now. The Video team is editing WITHOUT me from now on, then i go back through it, check whats done, make changes etc etc. Its quicker for both of us. There isn't that much editing left to do now either.
Jason Cole
22nd of February 2008 (Fri), 15:58
So just to clarify to everyone, as i said before, the DVD is NOT finished yet. there is still editing to do, then the DVD goes out to the Beta testers, then the re-edit, then the DVD's being made, then shipped. Estimated ship time is early April.
In the shipping details you need to specify NTSC or PAL. Its much easier if you do it there as its in one place for the shipping team ot see and will save any correspondence (and delays) shipping your DVD.
I just wanted to say thank you for the support everyone has given me, and a big thank you to all those people that have pre-ordered already. Its good that there is so much confidence in my product, and im sure it will live up to expectations too. So far everyone that seen any footage has loved it!
The Special for $59 US + $5 postage is on until the end of March, which is around the ship time. After that the RRP is $79 + shipping from 1st April.

Ah, Jason, I am woefully aware at how unreliable and/or misleading people's statements about what they want (versus what they are willing to do to get there) usually turn out to be ... and it has NOTHING to do with being an eye-catching beauty! I never count on anything before it happens. I don't buy equipment until I have the money in the bank, either! And when I start shooting for pay I will require upfront payment for the shooting fee ... if that's a stopper for someone then it's a stopper for me, too. And if they don't show up, the fee will likely be forfeited. But these girls know me casually from the fights and dances and know they'll see me again if they are 'No Shows'. So, we'll see how it goes.
I have two Bowens QUADX 3000 w/s generators and six flash heads, four various softboxes, two umbrellas, several reflectors with barn doors. And I have a portable battery pack in the budget for this year. [Repair on Bowens in the USA appears to be significantly problematical so I don't recommend them here. Also, they appear to have a Pocket Wizard dysfunction that I am battling, sigh.]
 HA. I totally disagree. Other than when you packed yourself in the corner of the bar with your mini-pod, you were perfectly sociable! :)
There is a great advantage to having others believe that I am totally inept: they don't expect much from me which is the way I like it, so I continue to perpetrate the hoax. However, it is true that I can't pick my nose in public properly!:lol: And besides, the way to get the images no one else has is to pack yourself away with a tripod!

Well, I am happily amazed to report that Nikki has already emailed me. I just sent her back a long note explaining where I am coming from and what I understand she needs. I guess I will have to watch the DVDs I have already (I've only had them for six months) to tide me over until Jason's comes available. Oh, yes, and I have plenty of things to "bring me down" all the time. Bought four Pocket Wizard PLUS II's and one doesn't work ... in the mail for repair. Then they, the Pocket Wizards, have trouble with my studio flash generators ... I'm trying a ferrite filter as was suggested by another Bowens user ... I should know today if it helps. And speaking of Bowens, I opened a brand new flash head today, went to install the modeling lamp and a piece of the flash tube glass fell out ... so now I need a new flash tube ... I won't send it in for repair as that takes three months or more, sigh. Yup, no matter how much good news there's always something to counter balance it. I'd be bummed but as near as I can tell that's the way photography is ... and it's why I have backups of everything sometimes two or three deep.

Geez, Wardie, just tell her I said you absolutely, positively must have it and it's cheap education. I'm sure my wife is gonna' spring for a set for me ... maybe even two sets! Just kidding. But, after all, what good is that huge investment in equipment if you can't get educated on how to use? She's still getting over the day i had shooting with Jason. I brought home one shot, which was more a location shot than a model shot but she still found the almost topless model.
The thing is, she knew exactly what I was going to be doing with JC. She says everything is OK as she trusts me but still makes comments.
If there is a next time working with Jason I will be asking if I can bring her along. She'll probably hit it right off with JC's MUA. She's a hoot!!

My wife is past that stage. Actually there was a small case of jealousy last year with a client (Friend of a friend) who I got on with particulatly well (My wife thought too well) But I have never given her any reason to be jealous or worried, & won her trust back. Bringing your wife to a shoot to show her that a glamour shoot isn't just a big Orgy where occasionally a photo is made is a good thing. I'm sure that immaginations go wild sometimes when all they see is photos of scantily clad young women looking sexy as anything.

DVD Update - 13th March 2008
FINALLY... the first edit is complete.. we are currently doing the menus now and the background. The first Beta copies will ship out to the Beta testers early next week.
The first copy will be compressed (lower quality video) onto one 4GB DVD, however the final production copies will be on a DVD 9 (around 9GB) and around three hours of footage. Once the Beta copies go out then the Beta testers have a week to get back to me with their feedback, we will do a second edit, polish the DVD and send the master to the duplicators. Everything else is ready to go. Based on this schedule we should hit the mid April deadline to ship.
Its nearly done.... and its looking awesome :-) Very professional and very informative.
The special forum only price is only available until the end of the month. At midnight on the 31st March (Australian time) the DVD will go to its normal price of $79 + shipping (US). There will be no exceptions to this price change. The $59 US (+$5 shipping) price is a pre-order price only.

Actually does anyone know a site that can be checked as to what version you run in your country? (Pal or NTSC)?

Jason, NTSC is region 1 for North America, which includes Canada.
Here's a site I found that might be helpful in selecting your regions. The info for this can be found by scrolling approximately half way down this page. http://www.dvdshippers.com/information.htm

On Wednesday im spending the day going right through everything on the DVD, and making any final points. the DVD should be finished to Beta stage Friday :-)
This keeps us on track for the Mid April ship date.

Congrats Dwight. Hope you have enough hard disk space. I just don't have the hardware that could handle pictures that size. That would be one wicked camera. Though with the 24-70 It would be good on the biceps too.

I shoot with 1DMIIIs which I expect are within an ounce of 1DsMIII and 300mm f/2.8 handheld at concerts and I am still a 215 pound weakling!

I gave my 100-400mm to my son as it just didn't work for my work as it is not fast enough.

DVD Update...
Today the DVD goes to BETA!!! Yeah... we have pretty much finished most of the editing now and today the last bits will be done. the DVDs will be burned and shipped ot the beta testers on Tuesday (Tomorrow - Friday and Monday are public holidays for easter so no post!!) but Tuesday the Beta copies will ship. The beat testers will have five days to get back to me about what (if anything) needs to be looked at. Then the following Monday the master will be sent to the printers. Based on this we should meet our ship date of mid April to start shipping.
What a mammoth job this DVD has been! its so nice to finally almost be finished. If it goes well and people really like it we will make it a series. This is volume one.
P.S. I just had a thought too... i m happy to sign the DVD's BUT they are all shrink wrapped which means I will have to take the shrink wrap off anyones that they want signed.... a lot of people have asked me to sign DVD's and i have sort of lost a little bit of track on who wants one signed hahaha so if you want the dvd signed please email me who you are to dvd@jasoncolephotography.com.au and i iwll make sure it gets done before shipping.

Just in case anyone is wondering - a "DVD 9" is a "Single Sided Dual Layer" disk, which holds 8.5GB and is supported by the DVD+R and DVD-R formats. (although the official names are DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL)
Hope that might clear up any confusion for us over here!:D

Well, Jason, I've ordered my copy. I don't know if you've had orders from Canada yet, more precisely from the Montreal area, if not, you've got at least one for now. I intend to promote it. Although we're a mostly french-speaking province in Canada, there are enough photographers who are bilingual and who regularly buy english books and DVDs. So no worries...:)

Have you listened to his YouTube outtake snippets? Won't help to speak English trying to understand him ... and his MUA is worse ... she reminds me of those old English movies where everyone is always saying, "Blimey!" Watch out or he'll want you to pay in Aussie pounds (or did we already have that discussion?)

I actually tried as best i can to talk a little slower so its easier to understand what i say!

And now that I've cleaned all the blood off my monitor since finishing the EliteXC Challenger Series image edits I am feeling much better. I just hope you stick to schedule as it won't be long before you'll have snow down there and shipping may become a problem. :-)

Without seeing the beta it is a little tricky. The guide doesn't seem to solicit suggestions for additional or change to content such as calibrating a flash meter or enhancing back dimples with one's thumbs. What if one of the beta testers has a great suggestion but it may require reshooting ... I'd hate to think they'd hold back because it would make more work for you! :-)
Jason Cole
25th of March 2008 (Tue), 17:27
I'm not sure how we will handle that yet if it comes up, if it was something that required some re shooting and couldn't be explained using text screens on the DVD then yes we would re shoot and yes it would hold up the DVD, but im absolutely NOT going to release a product that i willingly know has faults in it. Thats the whole idea of the Beta program.

One think that I noticed on your video promo on the website is the fact that your chroma keyer is affecting the logo on your shirt making the background video show through.
Typically whenever this happens there can be 2 main causes:
1)Your logo (or whatever item has become transparent) is the same color as the greenscreen
2)You are too close to the greenscreen and there is color spill which is casting the greenscreen color on unwanted places.
By the looks of it this is more of a number 1 issue.
Otherwise the trailer and material appears fantastic.
I will be placing my order shortly.
:)

Today is the day!
The Australian Beta Testers get their copies today, the American Beta Testers get theirs Friday (Tomorrow - do you know how much it costs to send Express post to the USA!!! ouch).
Its funny, after all this time and effort (and hasn't it been a mammoth effort) that finally the DVD is nearly done. Its a nervous anticipation now. I know the product is good, its the best of its kind but I also know how picky some people can be about very small things so i have done my best to cover every possible angle.
Now is the time to sit and wait and see what people think... im absolutely ITCHING to get back the first responses. I showed the Designer (Dallas Par from Merlin Media - responsible for cover design and all the various web related things needed) and Dallas just said "Wow" and couldn't stop smiling... he said im on a winner here for sure :-)
The DVD Is on special for four more days, until the 31st March, where it goes to its normal price of $79US + Shipping. Running time is approx 192 minutes.... (thats all i could cram in!) :-)

Yes the DVD is fine for younger viewers, there is implied nude, like Stacey with her hands of her boobs, but no actual nudity, and its very much shot in a documentary educational style too.
The Feedback from the Beta Testers so far is very promising, a few things have come up already but then thats the idea of the Beta tester :-)
