As i said in my profile, i have just started work as a photographer at a newspaper and am going into portrait and wedding. Some days i love this photo other days i dont. What do you think? My client absolutly loved it and it has pride of place in her lounge room. That should give me some indication of what its like.

Her arm is much brighter than her face, it sort of takes away from it for me. you could do some adjusting in PS or whatever you have and see if you can bring her face out. The lines int he background are distracting, perhaps a tighter crop without her arm would work.

She reminds me of a young Lena Horne for some reason, I would love to see a vintage colorized version...

This image is really too dark. As it has been noted, you can see your direct flash on her arm. This time of image really would need either a bounce flash from a wall to the left or an off camera flash that is coming at her from the left. A direct flash doesn't work here.
There's probably also too much depth of field for a portrait like this. What lens did you use? The kit lens?

I like the pose and of course the girl is very cute, but as for the technical end of things I dont think its great, the light that is there is only really lighting her arm and the rest of the shot is well...very dull and life less, now maybe you were goin for look but its not for me

Being brutally honest;
1. Her hair is a dark blob with no detail.
2. Her right arm appears to be sticking out of her head.
3. Left shoulder relatively over-exposed.
4. Shadow by her right cheek.
5. Shadow by her collarbone.
6. Uneven lighting across image.
These are things that would be basic on the G and N forum - they would start from here and go on. Take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Lighting on images like this is very difficult - I can see the mistakes and would likely make the same ones too.:)
