What camera? For a 1.6 crop camera, the best lenses for indoor basketball are probably the 85 f/1.8, the 50 f/1.8 and f/1.4. If the 100 macro is 2.8, it may be too slow for some poorly lit gyms.

Slow to focus....2.8 might not be fast enough. I tried a 70mm Sigma macro for basketball once and it was awful.

I used Canon's 100mm macro for a basketball game and it was definitely not ideal.

the only thing about that llens is that it doesnt have a very fast focusing motor. basketball is pretty much all i shoot and i have gotten some great shots with my 50mm but u have to focus on the preson a few seconds before you actually take the shot so its not wat u would call a action lens at all.

its not the aperature for sure beacause ive used the canon 70-200mm 2.8 and its fine even in "darkly" lit conditions
