Helo everyone

I'am a 10D user from portugal and I realy need some help.

My 10D, from one shot to the next start losing the red pixels. In a matter of about 10 photos I completely lost the red chanel.

Anyone as a silmilar problem?

My warranty ended to weeks ago :(

I suspect is a problem with the CCD. Some advice?

Thanks for your time.

Can you post an example image?
Are you shooting in JPEG or RAW?

It sounds strange, because there are no separate red, green and blue channels in the sensor. It would be very strange if there's something wrong with only the red pixels. All the pixels in the sensor are the same, but some have a red, others a green or blue filter in front of them.

The 10D Sensor is a CMOS :)

Jesper

I was shoting raw. But also tried in jpeg. The result is the same. I've said that I lost the red pixels because when looking to the histogram of the raw file one can see that the red chanel die after the first 'stop'. Mybe I'm wrong.

I'm posting (hopefully) 2 images that ilustrate the problem. The first one ilustrate the inicial problem. After a few images they all look like the second. I develop the images in C1 save as tiff16bit ans then resize ans save as jpeg in PS

Sorry, it really looks like it's hardware. Do you have a toll-free number to call on warranty issues? talk it over with them. You could try, as I did when the finder display in my D60 went within days of expiration, writing a nice letter to accompany the camera explaining how much you like Canon and it's really a shame this happened right about when the warranty was due to expire (my 28-year history of Canons can't have hurt). Canon USA fixed it as customer good will. I can't promise they'll always do this, but . . .

From the "graininess" of the image, it looks like one set of the post-processing circuitry has died so the red sensor signals are getting lost. Could be anything from a bad connection to a dead chip.

i remember seeing a post like this in the past, it was some problem with an attached flash or something.

try the following

reset the camera to defaults
remove ALL batteries
format media
try a different lens
try different media
try different quality settings
try different white balance settings
try with and without flash
try different camera modes.

Your CF card could be faulty or on the way out.
Does the problem occur on one and the same card?
What about trying another CF card, just in case.

thanks for the sugestions. Before posting I've tried all those except the flash. Nothing works.

I'm sending it to canon services today. and wait for the best.

Thanks JON for your previous sugestion. In fact I've tried that by phone and they politely said 'you should have bought your camera in europe'.

About the 'graininess' I hope you are right because if it is the cmos I expect a very expensive repair.

Yeps

I live in portugal but I've bought the camera in the usa during a stay.

In europe, usa canon warranty is not valid and the european warranty is 2 years. In portugal the 10D is sold at about 2200$ !!!

Any way I've just send the camera to the canon repair center. Now it's a mater of time (and money :( )

Thank you all of you guys for your time. Memmbers of this forum are really cool.
