I used a Hoya r72 filter for this.
My previous attempts at IR didn't look very good, they were very soft and out of focus. I saw a trick on another site that seems to work pretty well, it's not perfect, but it's a lot better than what I was able to do before.
take the filter off the camera.
set the Shortcut button to AutoFocus lock.
then, press the shutter halfway, then press the shortcut button.
the focus will be locked.
put the filter back on and take a picture. I usually use a five second shutter speed and put a two second delay on the shutter as well.
