I get it periodically. I'm trying to figure out if it is the camera of the flash card that is having the problem

More than likely your Flash card. The only time I ever had that happen was an accidental powerouttage when transfering with my CF-Reader to the computer.
Have you tried another one?

If this happens on more than one different card, then the problem most likely is in camera.
The first photo is actually quite interesting that way :)

I ahd it with a HP camera of mine. It isn't my SD card because it would work in other things.

this happens when the JPEG header gets corrupted while saving/reading the file. Format your flash card, and that should solve the problem. WHen you format the card the bad memory "cells" on it are turned OFF and the spare ones are turned ON to compensate. There fore, format the card as often as you need. If your problem persists it's time for a new card.
