Does anyone have any comments on this printer?
Canon currently has a $100 rebate on it.
But also, (sorry if it's a newbie question) but why get a printer of this quality as a hobbyist rather than just having a Sam's or Costco do the print for me?
Thanks!

Best search in the Raw, printing, and post processing forum. If you don't get answers post there.

A good review here and also of the competitors.

The advantage of having your own printer is mainly convenience of printing when you like. Only you can answer the question if it's worth the outlay rather than using a PRO service instead.

I bought this printer when it was released and I have been very happy with it. I use it mainly for personal use, but I have on occasions printed up 5x7's or 8x10's that I have sold at a reduce cost to customers if they want the image quickly. I once even used it for event printing. I normally do send out customer pics to the lab though.
The only thing I would caution is don't cheap out on the paper.
