Having read this board for the last weeks or so, finally I was convinced to buy a D60. After avoiding the tempting ebay offer for £700 I opted for the safe option and used a local LCE store.
So imagine my annoyance when I shot the first few fames to receive the error msg "PA-1" and the system locks up.
The error appears breifly without a CF card inserted but allows you to take shots, but when the CF card is inserted it completley locks up.
The on/off does not remove the message, removing the battery or CF card makes no difference ......... anyone help.

PA-1 is not an error, it merely is stating that you are operating under Parameter Set #1. Read your manual about the multiple parameter sets available on the D60.
If it was a true error, it would have "ERR-" followed by a number.
Take out your CF card and put it in a reader so you can format it in "FAT" file mode not "FAT32"

Although I must admit I have formatted a CF from my reader, I have heard a lot of comments from people suggesting that you only format the CF from within the camera's software.
Not sure what the differences between them would be though as I guess they have the same FAT based file structure.
P.S. I've just re-read the messages and I had presumed that it locks up when you take a picture, not when the camera is switched on. If this is not the case then Para5063's sensible suggestion seems like your only route!

Thanks for your comments, I tried Canon Tech Support this morning who were little help and advised me to send the Camera back.
It actually turned out to be a corrupt CF card, the posted comments about parameters were correct, hence it flashes breifly without CF installed. When the CF was read the images were un recognisable.
Still doesn't explain why this happened on the third fill of the card, but a replacement today seems to have solved the problem.
