I have a notebook computer (800 PIII, 512 ram, XPpro). I have had my A20 for several months and use it all the time. I D/L my pictures via USB cable and Zoombrowse software ver 3.2.1.5. Never a problem until now.

I can plug the USB cable into my A20, my computer will make the "connection" sound but now it won't go any further. If I open Zoombrowse and try to connect with the A20, the hour glass just keeps going. I have to go into task manager to close it. After i've done this my computer starts acting strange. If I go into Windows Explorer it won't show some of the contents on the left side of the screen (CDrom drive, Ext. HD..etc.) the hour glass wil just keep running also. To fix this I have to do a reboot.

I am also running AdSubtract Pro, ZoneAlarm Plus 3, NAV 2002, PestPatrol. None of these programs have caused a problem before as they have been in my computer for a long time. I also tried disabling all of these programs but it didn't help.

I know there's nothing wrong with the A20 because it will still connect to my wife's computer with no problems what so ever. I have also tried uninstalling all of the Canon software, rebooting, and reinstalling everything, no help.

Thanks for any help out there!!

Did anything at all change on your notebook before your camera stopped working?

ZoomBrowser isn't your problem. It's only a program. The problem appears to be Windows, since your O/S starts acting up after you try to connect.

Windows XP has an excellent feature called System Restore. You can find it in Accessories >> System Tools. With it, you can restore your computer to an earlier date when everything worked properly. XP makes checkpoints fairly often, so there should be lots of earlier dates to try out (unless you've disabled the feature). It will reset your registry, settings, and programs to that point in time. It won't affect your files, and you can always undo the restore. It works very well.

If you can remember the last time your A20 definitely worked, try doing a restore to that time. Afterwards, connect the camera. If it works, then something changed in your OS between then and now. If not, then it might be a hardware problem on your notebook. Make sure to go back far enough that there's no question the camera was working.

Hope this helps,
