Hi!

I want to buy a Lowpro Lens Case to put my 70-200 2.8 in with hood reversed and with tripod collar on. B&H suggests the Lens Case 3, but I have read reviews which stated that you can't fit that lens in there with the hood on. Some other reviews said to use the Lens Case 4, but then more reviewers shot that down.

The Lowpro site has not given me a clear answer.

So I humbly come to the trusted POTN Forum to get the real answer: Does anyone have any suggestions borne of experience?

Thanks!
Phil

I don't know much about LowePro lens case but you can check out ThinkTank's. See my signature below.

For anything you need to know about LowePro lens cases and such, I'd refer to these reviews:

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Camera-Bag-and-Lens-Case-Reviews.aspx

They give very specific information on exactly what lenses fit in each type of lens case - whether the fit is tight, whether the hood fits, whether the hood needs to be reversed, etc.

I have the Lowe Pro case 4 and it fits the 70-200 with hood reverse.

Thanks for the info!

4x4 - does it fit with the collar and a QR plate? The reviewer on the B&H site said no, and the Digital Picture Review said it was very tight...

I use a Lowepro LC3 for my 70-200/2.8 NON-IS w/ reversed hood, but w/o the collar. You will need the LC4 to fit the collar, but it seemed considerably larger to me when I was looking at them.

Thanks again!

The problem I have is that there are no local retailers who care the Lowepro line of lens cases, so I can't check it out for myself.

But that's what these forums are for!

I actually found a local store that carried them, as well as during the NY Expo Photo Show, they had an entire booth dedicated to all their products which was nice to see and feel and nevermind the discount in addition if you purchased at the store.

I still think ThinkTank is much better than the Lowepro now that I actually saw the Lowepro versions.

I don't have the QR plate but it fits with the collar, a little tight but you can zip it up easily.

The 24-70 with hood reverse is actually wider than the 70-200.

I have the 4, it fits your lens and plate perfectly

I keep my 70-200mm f2.8 IS in a LowePro #3 and it fits perfectly - reverse-mounted hood, tripod collar, and all.

In fact, I like how it fits snuggly, not tight, because as I move around I know my lens won't be.

Thank you all!

Calicokat - stay out of the heat down there...

While I was waiting for responses I e-mailed B&H, and I just received a note back from them saying that they opened up each of the Lens Cases in question and tried them with a 70-200 2.8. They concluded that the 4 is the best fit for a reversed hood, tripod collar, and QR plate.

How cool is that!! I wish all retailers were that awesome:cool:

I'll order in the morning:)

Thanks again.

The #4 must cost more. :)

In all seriousness, I didn't see that you needed to also fit a QR plate. That changes things...
