View Full Version : Canon 300d - Error 02 + Corrupted Images

I suspect my relatively new (< 2 months old) CF card (Scandisk Ulta II) has died but was wondering if anyone has run into this problem.

In the last week or so I've had a problem with my new 300d where it locks up with an "Error 02". I have to turn off the camera to reset it. Any images taken after the Error 02 appears are shown in the preview window as corrupted data. The pictures display correctly in the preview window as they are taken but do not get written to the card correctly.

After I delete all the corrupted photos I can download whatever images are left on the card, format it, and start again. After taking anywhere from 10 - 40 photos the error 02 returns.

Talking to Canon Support they say that error 02 is a general timeout. It might be the camera or it might be the card. They've advised me to try a different card.

The funny thing is that this problem only started happening after I put the card into one of the Kodak Digital Printing Kiosks. There were problems reading the card.

Cheers,
Chris

After you shoot and then transfer images from the CF card to the computer, what do you do to the CF card to prepare it again? Do you delete files, or do you re-format in the camera?

When I forst read this my initial thought I think was going down the same line as Bob... have you formatted the card since you used it in the kinda booth?

I've tried both deleting files and formatting the card. Its been formatted now a number of times and still runs into the same "Error 02" problem.

I bought anothr card today and snapped off 140 odd photos without any problem. Put the old card in it and it died after 41 photos. Formatted it, took some more photos and it went at 41 again. Looks like the card has blown. I'll borrow a friends 300d and see if the same problem occurs.

It is quite annoying but at least I had download all of the photos before it went into the print shop.

Cheers,
Chris

When you say you formatted it, tell us whether you formatted it in the camera (which is a quick format) or in the computer (which may be a quick format or a complete format).

If it continues to act up the same way after a complete format, then I would see how far I can throw it.

I've formatted via the camera. I thought that was a more "complete" format than via the computer. I'll give the computer format a crack and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice,
Chris
