HI dear friends,
I am not used to photography at night, I tried more than 10 shots and ended with the posted one,in M mode f16, I had to push the shutter speed to 30 seconds to have some light through.
Canon 10D, 17 -40 L at 22mm ,M mode F16, 30sec, tripod mount with remote and mirror lock up.
comments are very welcome
should I clone those clouds out?
best regards
Khalid

I love the clouds, makes the picture look more realistic.
I am sure someone else who is more of an expert than me will point out that the picture need rotating a few degrees.
Also there are some nice light reflections on most of the water, shame there is a black spot in front of the 2nd boat from the right - but you can only photograph what is there !
Nice pic !

yeah very nice shot.
so why f/16? Is your lens sharper stopped down to 16? I did some tests on mine and seems good at f/8 but not so at f/4 and f/20, so thinking the sharpest setting is in the middle somewhere, I intend to disover the details soon, but not got round to it yet as taking pictures is more fun.

try point the lens more towards the bridge, i'd love to see more of that, besides, buildings are much the same, so see one = see them all.
besides, i think lighting on the bridge is more dramatic, must have beautiful reflection on the river :D

thanks guys,
molydood : I tried f16 cause I wanted to go the furthest possible on f stops in landscape, I would have gone for f22 or over, but as usual, I learned in this forum that over f16, you might have some difraction (if that's the word).
I'll try to compare some # f values and post the results on the w. end
sGu : I thought about pointing the lens towrds the bridge but then , since I as on the seaside, parts of the land were more in the picutre at 20mm which I did not want to have, but it's a good point about the monotony of the buildings. meet next shots for more bridge
best regards

Try shooting late in the evening when there is still a little light left in the sky...

lovely photo, how long was the exposure time of the second one? I would narrow down my aperture so to get the trail lights of the ship all the way across the frame, just light trails without the ship, that'd be superb, think it might require a minute or so for the exposure.
And i can see couple of points where you can take great shots on the second photo, with tighter framing, i can spend all night there running around with a tripod :D

Sandide, thanks for the response. Do you want the lowest aperture for reasons of sharpness or is it to increase the shutter speed and thus capture more movement?
sorry, I'm off topic here, great pics.

thank you guys for the nice comments,
well,
Molydood : I actually went down to f16 for raisons af sharpness, all the consequences were here as a bonus
rwong2K : i usually go there arround 22 -23 h, sumer time, I always find sc world light on, give it a try the coming days and post some shots ..
sGu : exposure time was 30 seconds as well in the second photo. I actually was bothered by that boat moving in during the shot and dod not expect it a sec to make the pic better, next time I'll try to get more sopts and more variation and let you know :)
best regards to all of you guys
