Early this summer a bunch of bees came and landed in our neighbors yard. A man that came to look at them said that there must have been a queen bee in the bunch. Here are some pictures I took. Nothing special really, but it was neat to watch.

Interesting shots.

There used to be a group of hives near a local footpath. Used to see at least one swarm a year, but never this close up.

I think that was a blessing in disguise...

Sorry honeybees give me the creeps cause I'm allergic to them, but since #2 freaks me out the most, I guess it must be the best one.

I like that third shot. so close. These guys can fly off as soon as you try to zoom.

#4 was somewhat just a lucky shot. The bees were flying all around me. Kinda scary!! I just put my camera on macro mode and took a bunch of pictures and ended up with "1" that was kind of cool.

Thanks, Ron

interesting series, I found a swarm in the park two years ago - they are quite placid in this situation:

Interesting shots Ron - especially the image of the swarm on the ground, never seen anything like that before, well done.

Dave

PS Please try and keep the images smaller for us poor sods on 56k dialup - there's no need to have images at 500kb apiece...

During the day, the bees were FAR from placid!! I felt very lucky to get away with only one sting!! The real close up shots were in the evening when it was getting colder and they were fairly still at that point. But then the lighting was far from ideal.

dpastern, I understand your pain!! I also have dial up and it NEVER hits 56K!! I HATE IT!!
