I just received the September issue of Outdoor Photographer and they have an article regarding RAW vs JPEG. It pretty much mirrors my experience using RAW. I shoot JPEG now unless the situation calls for RAW. Check it out at newstands or wait till next month when it should be up on their website.

Hi Chris1le. Was that also what the article concluded.

... unless the situation calls for RAW.
That would be when?
Best regards,
Andy

Basically anytime the camera is on a tripod. :D Also if I am taking a picture for somebody else and I want to make sure that it is the best it can possibly be.

Absoultely. If I'm relatively comfortable with the exposure then I'll shoot JPG - In these cases I don't seem to gain anything using raw..... except for longer processing times.

I tried shooting RAW last week. Used the software that came with the 300D. In all honesty, I don't feel like I need to shoot RAW often. I'm new to photography and decided I'll only use it if the light is tricky and "when the situation calls for it". Might be because I'm new to the RAW post processing workflow too...

What the article tried to dispel is the myth that RAW is a professional format and if you do not shoot RAW you are not a professional.
"Since many amateurs like to follow what top photographers do in this area, I become concerned, especially when some think that JPEG is an amateur format and RAW is a pro format... ...So these photographers have a delimma--they don't enjoy using RAW, yet they feel guilty if they don't shoot RAW, and that is a shame."
Rob Sheppard, Outdoor Photographer, Sept 2004
He then went on to say all his images in OP and his books were shot JPEG including the April cover.
So decide for yourself. I'm not tryin' to start a war here or nothing. Just passing along some information that may be of help to some. :)

It all comes down to what suits *your* personal shooting - and post processing - style best.
That's why I always shoot RAW, even though it takes quite a long time to save the images on the G2 ... and is a little more inconvenient as I need to convert the images.
However the greater flexibility and better quality that RAW offers in post processing makes it well worth the hassle - for me.

Andy
