SIGH,

Guess I am going to have to finally learn how to meter. I got the ringflash and realize I defintely need it. Please advise the best, easiest to use and cheapest meter.

"Best" and "cheapest" are not compatible criteria.

Go to sekonic.com and read about their L-358, and see if you think it will meet your needs.

Best - L-758

I also agree the L-385 might be better for you if price is an issue.
Its also a great meter.

Okay I can get that, although NOT one of the things I wanted to get. What about that radio transmitter? Would that be useful to have...like if it would talk to the bloody lights and tell them what to do, I say well worth it. Also think Ebay would be good place to get one?

Most radio trigger sets merely trigger the flash. They won't "communicate" with it for power adjustments, unless you buy a radio set specifically designed for the flash you have.

The best light meter is dependent on your needs. For some the Sekonic L-308S is more than enough meter. The highly popular L-358 seems to be something of an industry standard, used by many professionals and amateurs a like. Taking a step up from there you can find used L-558R's and of course there is the current top of the line L-758DR which has just about every feature and option you could possibly want in a light meter.

For the money I don't think there is a meter that offers more than the Sekonic L-358.

The L-358 is a great meter and offers all the functions the majority of photogaphers need. The L-758 is a great high end meter, but most photogaphers probably won't need the added features. Although, for photographers that use spot and flash metering regularly, the L-758 could be ideal, even at the steep price.

Both meters have Pocket Wizard transmitters included or as an option. Wireless trigging of the strobes is a very nice way to work.

Thanks guys, I am going to hit Penn camera today and pick up a L-358. This is something I should have done 5 years ago anyway...that darn ABR800 just clobbered me over the head with the realization that I couldn't skate anymore.
