#2 is money... beautiful shot. Uncommon sights for lighting. The condensation on the nose cone makes it look a bit like a mig-29.

I was actually documenting the mission operations here in these photos, but there will be a re-shoot with 1 jet from each fighter squadron. Hopefully I can get the same if not better results.
Thanks for the kind words :)
But a tripod will be a must for the reshoot. 1600 and 800 ISO and 1/30th shutter speed at 200mm isnt cutting it.

Hopefully I can get the same if not better results. You might have to hustle to shoot more than three in one AM, but keep shooting as the sky gets brighter. In this case, the aircraft might be better out of the lights.

Photos- When i arrange the actual shoot I will have full reign over the position and lighting.
To give it the flightline effect, I am coordinating with the maintenance guys to arrange hopefully 2 huge flood lights to light the front of the jets with the sunset in the back.
be on the look out for that in a week or so.
Chandler- Shhhhh dont tell them! ;)
Hopefully while im in Iraq ill snag some worthy shots. I cant wait. I leave in January. 6 months

Nice shots, they almost look like models the way the gray looks on the aircraft.

man, #2 is killer, great colors! But yeah, like another guy said that paint job on the nose of the left F-15 is weird, have any insight you can share with us on that?
RyanCrane
25th of October 2007 (Thu), 22:37
Im not familiar with that particular jet, I can only assume that the nose cone was replaced and the paint didnt match, then combine that with the weird lighting and tada.
oh yeah.. Thanks!

Yeah wasn't sure if it was paint or condensation. Paint makes sense.

Could be a combo of paint and such...
the nose cone is made of different material than the adjoining body parts so it will have a different accumulation of condensation. If you look at the other plane too...you see the line are in about the same area.
Great shots!!
What equipment does the USAF have you shoot with? All our guys used old Eos-1D MKIs and film Nikon F4&5s

Nice pictures but a lot of noise. I figure because they are hand held and its dark you had to boost the ISO.
They arnt a** holes there about taking pictures on the flight line? Kadena the are ****s about that. I dont know if its because we are in Japan or what but no camera on the flight line unless you have permission from the base commander. I figure its because of the F-22s.

When I was with the AC-130Hs I had to submit a form to allow me to take pictures of it...it took well over a month and they has to screen my pictures and in the end I got about 15 or so left. The funny thing is, that same exact plane went to an airshow the very next day with no photo restrictions :)

All 3 are totally awesome. I wish I could get out of bed in the morning. Mind you, if I lived near an air base they'd probably wake me up early anyway.

I am originally from the San Diego area (around Montgomery field)... I think it is almost hilarious that the people wanted the USN out of Miramar because of the noise (funnier that the base was there 40 or so years before houses were)...now that they had felt they won the battle over the noise...the USMC moves in with the ever loud, lower flying (did I mention...house rattling) CH-53Es... I get a kick out of it.

How did you get permission to take those shots. I am at Nellis, I am Backshop QA. I get LOTS of air frames through here but the photo op just isnt there.
