When we were on holiday in California recently, we stumbled by accident into some sort of classic car show in the Main Street at Mount Shasta. I enjoyed taking a few photos of them, but being British I really have no idea what many of these cars are. Can anyone out there identify any of them for me?

This was the first time I've really tried taking photos of a car show. It was a bit frustrating trying to find good angles - too much clutter in the background, and I gave up on a lot of shots simply because there were so many people milling around - and I was surprised how difficult the exposure is to get right. What would the more experienced car photogs have done differently?

Comments and critique would be very welcome.

And now the cars.
EDIT: Second (and last) batch of cars here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=397840).

Looks like it was a good show. and I was surprised how difficult the exposure is to get right. First set the f-stop & shutter speed you need. Then adjust the ISO. Need an exposure crutch? (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=89123)

Can anyone out there identify any of them for me The 1st is a "Goat", as in Pontiac GTO.
Usually you can look at the license plate to see the year. Best method is to just ask someone while you're there.

not all the time but at a lot of car shows, theres an informational thing that tells what the car is and its history. Yea, as photosguy said you can ask if you see the owner.

PS- theres an informational piece of paper it looks like in all the windows.

#6 is a 56 chevy belairWow. Thanks.Usually you can look at the license plate to see the year. Best method is to just ask someone while you're there.I'll remember that next time... Unfortunately it dosn't help me now!not all the time but at a lot of car shows, theres an informational thing that tells what the car is and its history. Yea, as photosguy said you can ask if you see the owner.

PS- theres an informational piece of paper it looks like in all the windows.Thanks. Well spotted. There is description on the windscreens of #2/3/4/5, but they're not all legible at full resolution. I suppose I should have taken close-ups of the cards to make sure I had the information... next time I will.

And thanks to everyone else who took the time to contribute information.

Does anyone have any comments on the photos themselves?

As I said, this was the first time I've really tried taking photos of a car show. It was frustrating trying to find good angles - too much clutter in the background, and I gave up on a lot of shots simply because there were so many people milling around.

Still, since I posted these I've compared my efforts with a load of car show photos on POTN taken by other people. It looks to me like the compositional difficulties are quite commonplace, so I'm feeling a bit better about that. And, given that I didn't have any say in the lighting, I'm generally quite happy with the exposures too. (I appreciate FrankC's advice that indirect lighting is to be preferred, but I guess one advantage of being forced to shoot in the sun is that the colour saturation s pretty good. These photos are essentially straight out of the camera.)

What do you think?
