Hi guys,
Was out to shoot the Flying Bulls B-25 today. We had horrible weather with a solid cloudscape in the morning and light was absolutely sh.... so that's why I converted them to Sepia.
Here she is.... Birthday in 1945, so a tad old but still going strong! C&C appreciated of course!

And to end the series....inflight while lying on my stomach in the tail gunner position! Awesome feeling really. We had an air to air shoot planned with a lovely ol' Douglas DC-6, but they had two engine failures shortly after take off.... :(:(:(

Great shots, Red Bull takes tremendous care of their planes, and it shows.

Thank you very much guys! Glad you like them! :D
Lucky to get a flight...
Yes indeed that was a very fortunate ocassion, and it was fantastic to be inside. You only get in from below - behind or in front of the bomb bay, and can crawl forward to the flight deck and down into the nose.... that's a stunning thing to do in flight :)
Shame our air to air date had problems... :(

Hehe thanks! I very rarely upload nowadays, because most of the rejections are stupid anyway.
Glad you liked those! Cheers!

Looking at your website, you seem to have a lot of great opportunities. How would one start doing what you do?

Looking at your website, you seem to have a lot of great opportunities. How would one start doing what you do?
thats been my long time, mind boggling question too! i see people like Sam Chui, etc, the big names in aviation photography and i wonder to myself how would you even start! i just want the opportunities and not the cash! i just want to be under a wing of a 747 and get a wide angle shot, is that too much to ask?
seems like you gotta spend your own cash first to travel the world in search of great photo ops and build your portfolio before even thinking about this all. and thats an expensive route that i dont see myself ever having the chance to take

Once again guys, thanks very much for all the awesome replies!
Spectre,
How would one start doing what you do
Thanks for your reply, and glad you actually like my website :)
Actually....I've ABSOLUTELY no idea how one could get into it. I think it works the same way as in any other part of photography. Building a portfolio, getting experience and hope that ones pictures spread out and are seen. Build contacts and make friends, and shoot as much as you can...of course also being lucky to a certain amount comes into play.
I am by any means not an experienced photographer and am not doing good in the business at all so far. I'm only 19 years old and am only digitial since a few years. I've had my website done by a friend of mine who studies graphics and design at university. I've had my first DSLR ( a 300D ) bought by my parents and I've basically spent every weekend at the airport shooting.
I consider myself very lucky to actually be allowed to come with the crew in the B-25, as I sold some prints to a crew member once.
This shoot was planned once and for sure won't be easy to do again, as the costs involved are simply too high apparently, so it's a real shame I didn't get to take any air to air pics.
I'd guess it's just all about who you know and how you shoot. No receipt I guess  I've not learned all by any means and would not consider myself a pro at all... I'm just a hobbyist and an aviation nut who is lucky enough to make money off his photography. Thankfully enough to enable buying myself a 1Dmk3, and enough to travel once or twice a year for some photography. I'm really grateful about that!
kaitanium,
thats been my long time, mind boggling question too! i see people like Sam Chui, etc, the big names in aviation photography and i wonder to myself how would you even start! i just want the opportunities and not the cash! i just want to be under a wing of a 747 and get a wide angle shot, is that too much to ask?
I had a look at your photos blog and have to say I'm impressed! Your work is actually FAR better than anything I've been able to produce so far in non-aviation!!!
I took it you're from California or B.C. as your location says west coast? Basically it's all about building a portfolio that's true. Sam Chui did it no other way over years....I guess having wealthy parents helped him with travelling, that's true, but there are tons of others who accomplish the same without that, me included.
If you're near LAX, that's an amazing airport for photography.....you can get quite creative there, so that'd be a good start for your to begin taking pics! Meet with some locals, look at the photos on the internet and see how they do it....it's just all about trying, and actually I hope to be able to travel to LA in March or April next year....so there's not really the need of travelling to exotic countries, just shoot at your location!
If you fancy getting airside for wide angles......LAX would be one of the best airports to try actually. I don't know how, and who you have to get in touch with, but you can get a guarded airside access at LAX Airport! Look through the A.net database! There's tons of shots from inside the perimeter.
I'm not sure whether it's for a fee or not...but all I say is try! Can't get anything worse but a "no" after all :)
Cheers guys, and apologies for the long reply :p

great reply! much thanks for the compliments on my blog! your comments above were informative to say the least. im from san francisco, so the only airport is SFO which isnt all that great for spotters. blah. i only have one photo on anet and that was after millions of rejections. its pretty hard getting to spotting locations if i go to places like LA because if im there im always there with agenda and that always involves friends and never a single chance for spotting, maybe ill make a point next time to spot.

Great set - no2 is a stunning shot especially with the use of b/w and I'm sure it sounded fantastic! Our local airshow regularly features The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the sound & sight is fanatastic.
