I own a 380ex and I am buying a 40D. Is there any advantage to replacing my 380 with a 430?

I used to have a 380EX, the biggest complaint was no swival, can't do bounce when camera is on vertical position.

No wireless ETTL either but that shouldn't affect you yet.

This is exactly why I bought a 430 instead of the 380 when I went flash shopping.

Have you considered the Sigma EF 500 DG Super? Very good flash...
