Is there a way of jazzing up other colors than the ones listed in PSE.

Would like to brighten up / saturate whites & browns.

Thanks for any hints.

If you go into "Enhance | Adjust Color | HueSaturation", you can click on the "Edit" dropdown box to select the primary and secondary colors. Since Brown is actually a dark Red, you can select "Red" from the selection box and then on the bottom of the window where the color bar is, you can adjust the markers to narrow down the color to the specific color of brown you want to adjust. To start, use the eyedropper and select the color you want to adjust from your image. Then adjust the marker tabs on the color bar to narrow the range of color you're going to affect. Then adjust the saturation and lightness sliders to get the effect you want.

As for adjusting the White, that's going to be a little more difficult because White is basically the combination of all the primary colors at full saturation. In other words, you can't get any whiter than white although you can go darker into gray and then black on the opposite extreme.
