I took my new 135F2L and Canon 1.4x Tcon to the zoo today.
I'm very unhappy with the results. The pictures with the Tcon are soft and lack contrast. Either it's back front focusing, or it's just not sharp.
Here are some examples:

Awww. You just wanted us to look at your fine pictures. The combo really seems to work quite well.

No...

It's thatcrappy lens.. you'll have to offload it cheap... I may have an uninterested buyer...

Seriously though.. your pics look awesome to me. I think you may be getting "spoiled" by the results from one of Canons' sharpest lenses ever?

Hehe, you got me.
I am so happy with that lens, and the tcon, I just cant stop posting (boasting) about it.
Before buying this combo, I was really hesitant about the 1.4x tcon.
I couldnt seem to find any good pictures with it, nor any definative "yes, it's great" answers.
I just hope this helps those looking at getting the 1.4x tcon. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Now I only wish Canon would sell a 1.4x talent converter.
Then I'd be set! Well, actually a 2x would probably be needed in my case.

I got the Kenko 3X talent converter at half the price....

But the results were not that sharp...

This conversation got me curious, so I went and checked my TCon.

Apparently I had it on backwards! My pictures should look much better from now on. Yep, even a simple check through the viewfinder shows a marked increase in my talent.

Hmmm... I'm thinking that I need a new camera now. The 10D's 1.6x crap factor now makes my pictures look like... well, crap. Stupid camera.

No wonder my MkII pics look better than all those 10D images I took..

It only has a 1.3X Crap Factor.

It's not just crap factor. It's also fecal length.

Optics do matter.

8) I love it!

It's so incredible to part of the age of electronics, computers and photography. It makes expressing our art so much easier and fun. It's like finally, FINALLY someone removed the ball-and-chain.

Holy smokes!
I was just looking at that first bear picture again, and I noticed that little black dot just above it's head.
When I looked at the full size image, I discovered that was a fly!
Not only could you see the fly, you can actually see the fly's wings!

Hey... get some (new) glasses for yourself. The ones for your cam are working fine...

Some people are never happy... disgusting...

That damn fly did it. Pushed me over the edge. I just ordered the 135 f/2.0. I'm tired of missing all those flies buzzing around my subjects.

Awesome!
Canon, send me some type of commission!
Can you see in the original picture (#2 above) the little black dot?
http://www.mts.net/~lftbrain/bear_fly.jpg

I thought it was maybe dirt or a dead pixel when I looked at the picture after I posted it here. That is why I was so shocked to see the fly on the full size image and even more shocked to see the wings.
Man, on that MKII, with it's resolution, you would probably be able to tell if the fly was male or female
Hey, where did you order from, and what's the ETA. I'm excited to see some of your first pics.

Oh, just in case you have any guilt after ordering the lens, have a look at this (http://www.mts.net/~lftbrain/full_bear.jpg).
Keep in mind this was shot at f2.0

Guilt? Only for a fleeting moment. Lasted for about 30 seconds after I pressed the send order button. 17th St photo, $850 + UV filter and shipping. Not tracking yet but ETA is probably next Tuesday.

Awesome shots of that bear and its friend. Can't wait to see what it will do on the MkII. :D :D :D
