One of my favourites. This is the male of the species in breeding colours. The female is brown with red beak and red stripe through the eye. They have lots of energy and don't sit still for very long.

They seem to be pretty common round here, but getting a shot of one is the hard part. They don't mind people but they're always bouncing around and rarely sit still. My parents always used to get these little guys in their garden but lately the bigger noisier birds have taken over the territory.

I.... ummmm... don't know. I'll check the original. Might be something to do with resizing it...

Here's what I started with, so it's pretty good considering. As you can see, I fudged out the twig and vine in the foreground. I think the fuzzyness in the breast is an effect of that twig being there. I was shooting at f/6.3 so I guess it's possible. If not that, then I guess it was just movement....
