i've been asked to do a series of promotional band shots, something that i've always been interested in doing.

they are a hardcore/screamo type band, and i want to produce some really 'dark' stuff for them. there's 5 of them.

this is where i need help. i have access to a couple of studio flash heads at my college, which, i haven't really used before, and i'm a bit of a amateur with flash. (so bare with me)

i also have a massive room, with can be plunged in complete darkness. (a drama studio)

i want to stick one of the flash's behind the group for seperation light.

and the other high up to one side, softboxed, to light up the faces.

will this work as well as i expect it to?

if you could give me some suggestions on what to do with the equipment i've got available, that'd be great.

regards, Ryan.

Ryan,

This should work as expected if you can get the light levels right.

I strongly recommend getting in there and trying it out BEFORE your shoot to test it.

If you are unfamiliar with studio gear, you can end up in all sorts of mess and unable to get it all happening before the subjects have enough and go home :D

Rob,

thanks for the reply.

i have the option of using the equipment and space before, so i was planning on doing this anyway.

it's a friends band, so i'm sure they'll have patience, but i still want to go across as knowing exactly what i'm doing etc, so i'll test before.

look out for the results in the next few weeks, i'll post them on here.

thanks for the help.

Ryan.
