So, here's my first pic post on POTN.
This was also my first attempt at sports shots with my 350D. I'm pretty happy with the first one. I don't know how I feel about the white balance, though. I used the click point and selected the baseball itself. On #2, I'm curious if there's any way to reduce the effect of the fence that was between the subject and camera. Also questionable white balance here, too, I used the lettering from the back of the jersey for this one. What do you think?

They could use some sharpening as they look a bit soft. The white balance seems a bit weird as well, dunno what it is though.
A shame of the fence on the second picture though, perhaps get even closer to the fence?

Thanks for the comment royv. I, too, feel something is off with the WB. Not sure how to correct it though. Anyone have any advice?

Okay I did a quick edit on your first pic, with the original file you can do a lot more of course. I just added a little contrast, sharpened it and then I darkened the edges a little bit which draws your attention more to the pitcher.

Royv-
Thanks so much! I do like the pic with the contrast kicked up a bit like you have it. I will have a go at the original with some more PS, using your tips. Thanks again!

And btw, I just made it over to your pbase gallery, and you have some really amazing images there. You're doing some fine work, indeed. Thanks again for the tips.

Impressive again. There have been a couple of threads recently on here about selective color usage, with most being opposed to its use in general. I think you have some really great examples of how to pull it off well. Very nice technique you have there!

It's not that hard to do at all actually.
It's just you have to know when to apply a technique like that and when not to. 99 out of 100 would be ruined by a thing like that.
