OK it came in today from beachcamera. This is the second time the fedex people came to my house and I was home finally. The outside shipping box was really beat up. Scared, I opened the box and original canon 580ex II box was ok. I have both the 580ex and 580ex II in my hands. The 580ex II is bigger and a lot quieter. I noticed the 580ex II head being louder and more noticeable. This is the only complaint I have, that the head sounds louder and is more noticeable when zooming with the flash. The 580ex seem stronger at first but I think it was more of a mental thing, because the 580ex II makes no sound when shooting and charging. I like the built of the 580ex II a lot more. Over all seem like a great flash. I haven't tried it out yet, but I will.

i agree that the 580ex2 feels like a tank compared to original 580ex, mine came in the mail also yesterday but from bh. luckily didn't even get charged duty importing it into canada.. great price for a great flash.

I love the way the battery compartment opens and closes. My box arrived a few days ago via UPS from B&H. It was pouring down and despite the UPS guy putting it in a plastic bag, the outside of the box was soaked. Fortunately my 430EX and 580EX were dry inside the sopping wet box.

I knew it! I'm not the only gadget guy on this forum. Sure I love photography, love getting out and taking pictures; and I get a real thrill when I've captured what I think is a good one. I also like sitting in front of the computer with my editing software and making pictures more pleasing to me - I've never held stock with those that harp on about it only being out there with the camera. AND I LOVE THE KIT, the techonolgy, the ergonomics and the aesthetics of all of the the gadgets make them fun to own. Did I take this too far....?

na not quite... its such a thrill to get a new piece of equipment. I love the feeling I just want to go back to the store everyday and purchase something new. Speaking of which I am due to pick up my new 580EXII now that my supplier has them in stock

I had the same first thought when I powered up my 580 2.... Uh, no noise? What??? Wow that sureis nice! No annoying high pitched noise anymore, yeah!!!!
The build is simply amazing too. I like how easy it is to mount and dismount as well.. just a flip of a switch, and a metal hotshoe! Only if they'd put that on cameras!
The 580 2 is definitely worth the money to upgrade to.

Is your head loud when zooming and starting up the flash? I'm just wondering, because like I said the package was really beat up when i got it. Well I just order another 580ex II from B&H. I will compare when I get to the two. Beachcamera has a 30 day return policy now.

Wow. Lucky you. No duties and taxes or just no duties? I don't think camera equipment has duties anyways...just supposed to be GST and PST.

Inzite what method did you use from B&H to not pay duties? Did you have to pay GST on it?

Hi Inzite,
I live in Canada as well, and you mentioned that you never had to pay duty.
How did B&H ship to you,and did you have to pay a brokerage charge?
If so, if you don't mind asking how much?

If you choose UPS Expedited shipping you pay GST and PST only no duty. I buy pretty much all my gear from BH

Hi Guys
What mode do you guys use on your 580 II? Do you just use ettl and bounce it around 60 degrees?
Cheers,
