old flash(300TL) not working on EOS350D

dear friends
iam new to digital slr. i got a EOS 350d with me.
recently i got one canon speedlite 300TL from my friend which he was using in his canon slr camera(not digital).

the problem with me is that this external flash is not working in my 350D. is there any special setting we need to do while connecting this flash.
or is that this model 300TL will not work on rebel xt.

Hi Alex. Welcome to POTN!

Digital cameras have different flash metering systems than their film predecessors.
The 300TL is not compatible with your 350D.
You need a Canon EX Series Speedlite or E-TTL compatible aftermarket unit.
