View Full Version : Rebel auto mode smarter that it seems?

I have noticed, that whever I use the fully manual mode and expose to the right, I get at least one clipped color channel. Even if I expose to the right and even leave 1/5th of the histogram free, the clipped channels still occur.
However if I shoot scenes without too much contrast in the Av mode, the image is underexposed by current standards, BUT looking at the single channel histograms in photoshop reveals that none of them are clipped (usually)
Anybody care to comment on that?

My experience with 300D is that with a good lens such as the 70-200 mm F4 L I get much better photos in the auto modes than with ordinary lenses such as 70-300 mm USM IS. My experience with these lenses is that with the L lens the photos need less post process.
Some of my best photos I have shot with the L lens in sports mode. If You look at my past posts in share You can find a photo of a Harris Hawk which is one of the best photos I have ever shot and that was with the L lens in sportsmode.

No idea.
But maybe you just try to delete the double post, if this is still possible.
Best regards,

I've noticed that too, & usually just ignore the clipped RGB channel, which may be wrong, but the image looks dull if I don't.
I'd be very interested to hear from someone who can 'shed some light' on this topic.
