I like the red one, at least he's easier to spot and run!, anything with that many legs usually sends me running in the opposite direction :), are they dangerous/pose a threat to humans?
What a coincidence I just found this guy not to long ago. Almost same familia.

Thanks for the comment Far2close. The heads carry poison, but the birds shake them off before eating them. A very interesting looking centipede you have there. Looks dangerous too!!

Lovley shots Joan and a great find. They really do give me the creaps. I think its something to do with the amount of legs.

Nice series Joan :) Like #2 the best. At 4-5 inches, they're larger than any Millipedes that I've ever seen!!!

Thanks for the nice comment Dave, the full grown ones are rather large but then they are harmless. Our native people say that when you see them come out it is going to rain, and most of the time it does.

I guess I have a phobia - go figure, I'm not afraid of snakes, mice, dogs, etc. But certain bugs, yeah! BTW, the bald eagle was taken at the Minnesota Zoo. In a couple of weeks I'm going to Alaska to see 4,000 of them. No millipedes there! ;)

There is no acounting for phobia's. My mother was not scared of anything either....except for a worm!! I envy you your trip to see the Bald Eagles. I hope you are going to post some nice pics for us on them. Have a great trip.

:)Hiya Joan,
Great shots/captures, looks like the pair in #1 are in the throes of mating, what lovely colours they are & I love how you captured the winding/unwinding action in #3.
Cheers for now

Thanks for your lovely comment Mark. I also thought that they were trying to mate but they seemed to be kissing instead. I have actually not seen such behaviour before and have been trying to find out what they were doing. Also this seems to be two different species.

Here is an interesting link for anyone interested in millipedes, unfortunately it is in German, but it does give nice pictures and the names
