I'm unable to get my Sekonic L-758DR to cord sync with my 20D.

I'm using a Canon 20D with a 100mm macro lens and MT-24EX dual flash in manual mode for close-up flash photography (dental office). Only need the aperture settings at a few specific maginifcation settings, but I'd also like to set up an exposure profile in the near future.

I used the Sekonic sync cable between the meter's Synchro terminal and the 20D's PC terminal. Seems to do nothing. Why?

I was able to get things working in non-cord mode.... it just bugs me that I'm unable to use the cord. I'm probably unaware of some fundamental issue here....

Any ideas?

The cord going to the camera does nothing, simply because the camera is a trigger, like the flashmeter is a trigger...there is nothing BEING TRIGGERED via this connection! The corded mode of flash meters is intended to go from the meter to studio flash or portable 'flash PC connection' (not 'camera PC connection')...press the button on the flashmeter, and it triggers the studio flash or portable flash to emit light that the meter reads.

Do you have the MT-24EX connected to the cameras hotshoe?

I seem to recall that the circuits for the hotshoe and the PC terminal on the 20D are isolated.

So you will not be able to do what you want.

What you are trying to do would be similar to trying to turn on a ceiling light in the kitchen, by flicking the wall switch in your bedroom.

Enjoy! Lon

You can set up the meter to wait for a flash that is triggered by the camera (within a specific time interval, after pushing the meter's button). Since you're working with the subject in close proximity to the camera and flash source(s), that should be easy to do.

Man- I could swear the Sekonic manual told me to connect the camera to the meter. But what you've all told me makes sense.

Glad I asked rather than spending an entire weekend goofing around with it. Thanks everyone! Malcolm
