Here are a few from my yard this morning:

Fox sparrow - there has been a pair hanging around for the last week or so.

Red-breasted nuthatch - I've had a pair in the yard for much of the fall. I hope they will become regulars! This is the female of the pair. Her breast is less red, and she has a gray cap.

White-throated sparrow - these have been in my yard for several weeks. I'm surprised they're still here.

Very fine, love the light on the face in the first shot. Cute birds, and that last sparrow is one I've never seen in the wild, I want one in my yard...steve

Nice warm colors and good exposure on the shots - makes them very ... "homey". The sparrow shot is my fav just ahead of the nuthatch.

The first shot is a bit dark on my monitor. All cracking shots though. Love the nuthatch.

Great shots Liz. I'm jealous of the Fox sparrow, but I got a Harris's Sparrow down at the feeder today to make up for it. :)

Thanks - I've been doing some feeder rearranging this weekend and it seems to be working. ;)

Thanks - looks like the WTS occasionally makes it out your way, so maybe you'll see one yet. I've noticed that they like to hang around on the ground, and I have a brush pile of fallen branches that they favor.

Thanks, the fall colors do give them that warm look.

Not surprising that it's a bit dark - the fox sparrow seemed reluctant to come out into the sunlight, so I had to settle for part of it being in the shade. Thanks for looking!

Thanks! For a while I thought it was a song sparrow, but the red really came out today so it's clearly a fox sparrow. I've never seen a Harris's sparrow. Now let's have a photo of one!

Thanks everybody for looking! My shooting time is limited these days due to work and the daylight disappearing. I was determined to get some shots today so I was glad the birds were cooperative. I leave for Alaska in two weeks so that will be a full week of nothing but photography!

I've got a thread up somewhere with some shots of him. Got it right there where the downy ate out of your hand. :)

Heh, yeah right after I posted that I realized that you had probably posted a photo, and sure enough, you did. ;)

Fantastic shots, Liz - very sharp, great light & color.

I see the f/l was 700mm - I assume that means you used a 500mm lens with the 1.4x extender, right?

Yes, and also had an extension tube on there.

Great series, love the Nuthatch. :)

Thanks - up until this fall the RB nuthatch was a rare visitor to my yard. I see the pair just about every day now. They are very tame and always bring a smile to my face. :D

Three beautiful images here.....love the light and details. Excellent!

I get the Fox Sparrow as well but only in the Spring for some reason. The White Throated Sparrows were still here yesterday and its been weeks since a Red Breasted Nuthatch has visited and i sometimes wonder if the White Breasted Nuthatches don't give them grief when they do visit.

Thanks - I think there have been fox sparrows in my yard before, but I've only had fleeting glimpses until recently. The white throats do seem to be taking their time this year, I think usually they'd be gone by now. I've noticed that the red-breasted nuthatches tend to be chased away by the larger birds, but I have four different feeders they can go to, so they usually find a spot. Yesterday when I was out, my pileated woodpecker came for a couple of visits, but never stayed long enough for me to get a photo - grrr!
