I just read "Real World Camera RAW" by Bruce Fraser.

What an impressive resource... it explains everything I cared to know about the characteristics of RAW files, specific information on how Adobe CS approaches processing them (what is destructive, what is not, the relationship among each of the sliders), how to most effectively use the Adobe tool raw toolset... and something I found extremely insightful, specifically what curves are being applied to an image at default settings for exposure/contrast/shadow.

Some of his information is covered in "Real World Abobe Photoshop CS" but this book is expands the topic into what amounts to a class on Raw processing. Even as user of C1Pro (for which no such user guide exists! ) I found Fraser's book answered questions I was really "best guessing" at.

It was a well spent $32 from my perspective.
