I went on a 9 mile and 9 hour walk recently in the Lake District. Just after the summit, the weather started to clear and I found this spot.

C&C welcome.

Obviously the mere fact that it's the Lake District gives you an unfair advantage over most landscape shots. This is lovely. I can't help thinking that I'd like to see it in colour though - or is the sky and the lighting not as interesting as it looks?

Great B&W treatment that probably makes the shot, I'm guessing.

Is it me though or is it not quite level?

I like this a great deal, although I feel a slightly tighter crop (toward the top right) might improve it more. I feel that the rock in the midground should anchor the bottom right of the shot, letting the viewer walk into the countryside rather than take shelter behind the rock.

Great work.

And I agree with Al. It's very slightly off-level (look at the cloud-base on the right hand side).

The lighting is absolutely perfect here. I wish to go to some place like this soon.

StewartR-here's a colour version for you.

It is also cropped slightly and horizon adjusted a little. Well spotted to those who thought it was a little @@@@ed! I was tired. No excuses actually. Funnily, I have bought a spirit level last week as I have found this is not the only shot to be a little off.

One discovery on this trip I found, I think photos of rocks, rock, especially for B/W shots. Terrible pun, apologies.

If others wish to make further crops, please feel free to do so, as I am interested to share other opinions.

Having seen both, this definately works best in B&W.. but with a little crop bottom RH corner it would be near damn perfect.

EOSAddict & Pete- thanks for your help. I think I have learnt something here. I agree the photo works better being slightly cropped as suggested. Cheers!
