What's the difference? I just picked up a cord described as Canon ETTL for $26 on ebay.

The new one is weather sealed for the 580ex II and 1D

The OC-E3 is built a bit better than the OC-E2. Yes, it does have the weather sealed boot to match the MkIII and the 580EX II, but it is a bit more durable than the old plastic shoe mount. I guess there were some issues w/ the old one breaking so Canon "beefed" it up a bit. I bought the OC-E3 in hopes of owning a MkIII soon.

There's a review of the new cord, in comparison to version 2. You have to pay to get the whole thing but what they do show you on the main page is still some of the main inforamtion:

This is what I bought. If it's good then I have a bargain since it's $50 at B&H.

I'm sorry but the site you link to is totally free, I use digital picture a lot and have never seen any mention of a fee for more info.

rhys - let me know how those ebay off-shoe cords turn out. I've been looking at them as well. The only difference I could determine was probably build-quality (though I hear Canon's earlier cords lacked in this area as well).

At this price, it's definitely alot easier to bear splicing it with an extension cable. I was thinking about splicing an Ethernet cable in between, since they are cheap and have enough wires. Just split a RJ45 coupler for the jacks on each spliced end.

You're right. I must have scanned it a little too quickly. The "Buy" button under the >Review (which looked, at a glance to indicate there was more available), was to buy the product. Sorry for that!:o

That is a cheap knock off of the OC-E2. How is it working so far?

I just ordered an OC-E3 via Adorama through Amazon.com. Total was a hair under $66. Gonna use it with a macro bracket.
