There's a thread above (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=398617) with a guy using a 300 f2.8 IS. You can see the huge difference in quality. These just lack the sharpness, colour vibrance and contrast of those others.

You showed the faces quit well. Dont hessitate to use lower focal length or farther distance to have more of action.
